Fireboy DML, Wizkid sets record at the Headies Awards

LAGOS – Nigerian artistes, Adedamola Adefolahan popularly known as ”Fireboy DML” set a record of being nominated in nine categories at the 14th Headies Awards in Lagos. The Headies, is a musical award show which recognises outstanding achievements by Nigerian artistes in the Nigerian music industry. This year’s award titled: ”Explore”, a virtual event held on Sunday, rewarded works released between July 2019 and September 2020. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Fireboy DML who was nominated in nine categories went home with five awards, the highest feat achieved after Wande Coal in 2010. Fireboy DML won the awards for Best R and B Single, Best Pop Album of the year, Headies Revelation of the year, Best R and B Album of the year and the Album of the year.

Nigerian Rapper CDQ has accused organisers of the 14th Headies award of “playing politics’ with the choice of winners. CDQ said this on his Twitter page after Mayorkun won the Best Street Hop artiste category at the event on Sunday night. According to the rapper, Naira Marley deserved to win that category. CDQ attributed Mayorkun’s win to industry politics. His tweet read: “Headies you have started this obvious industry politics things again. How the hell una go carry Best Street Hop give someone else at the expense of Naira this year and conscience no judge una? “Everyone in that category na family but ooto oro o ni ka ma so ohun (We should speak the truth).”
