Gazipur factory worker killed in fire A worker of a garments factory in Sreepur municipality of Gazipur was killed in a fire on Saturday morning. Deceased Masum Shikder, 23, was the son of Shurjo Shikder of Doha. He worked at the godown of Dhaka Garments and Washing Ltd. Sreepur Fire Service and Civil Defence deputy assistant Abdul Hamid said the fire broke out at the chemical godown of the factory at Dakkhin Bhangnahati area around 10am when Masum was working inside it. The factory authorities put the blaze under control before the fire fighting unit reached there. They, later, recovered the charred body of the youth. The whole godown was gutted by the fire.

The dead, Masum Sikder, 23, was a wielding operator at Dhaka Garments and Washing Limited in Bhangnahati area. Witnesses said there were several power outages at the warehouse after 9:30am. As the fire broke out around 10:00am, workers of the garment factory, housed in a five-storey building next to the warehouse, rushed to the main entrance of the factory, but found it locked.

Fire breaks out at Gazipur chemical factory

Gazipur district administration has formed a five-member committee to investigate the fire. The committee, led by Additional District Magistrate Abul Kalam, has been directed to submit its probe report within seven working days, said SM Tariqul Islam, deputy commissioner of Gazipur district. The fire broke out at the factory in the upazila s Mulaid area around 4:45pm. Eight units of firefighters were still trying to douse the fire till last reported around 11:15pm, said Miya Raj Hossain, senior station officer at Sreepur Fire Service Station. The whole building has been used for producing and storing chemicals including hydrogen peroxide, chlorine, bleaching powder, caustic soda, etc. It is preliminary suspected that the fire broke out following an explosion in the storage facility for hydrogen peroxide, the fire service official said.
