Four people were hospitalized and another three were treated after chemicals were found “present in the air” at a Green National property, according to the Syracuse Fire Department. Firefighters and police responded to the Chestnut Crossing Apartments, located at 947 James Street, just after 12:30 p.m. for a reported strong chemical odor in the building, according to a fire department news release.

The first blaze was reported around 9:15 Saturday morning at a home on the city s Northside. No one was inside the building on N Alvord St. Just before 3, another fire broke out two miles away on Wadsworth St. A man inside the home was able to escape, and was taken to the hospital.
