Cicero–North Syracuse High School students celebrated at their junior prom Friday, May 14, 2021. The event was held at the Sheraton University Hotel in Syracuse.
Due to the pandemic, the prom was broken up into four time slots to spread out the students. There are more than 620 students in the junior class, according to school officials.
Students attending also had to get Covid tests or show school officials they had been vaccinated.

Donald William Yauchzy, of Camillus, died December 5, 2020.
Born in Jamestown, he moved to North Syracuse with his family at the age of six and graduated from North Syracuse High School in 1971 and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in 1975, according to his obituary.
A downturn in the national economy closed the market in his chosen field, but forest biology remained his life’s interest. Don was an informal teacher and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. He was an avid reader and he encouraged others of all ages to read as well.

Today’s obituaries: John ‘Jack’ Fogarty was a high school science teacher for North Syracuse schools

John “Jack” Francis Fogarty, 95, died Saturday, January 30, 2021.
Born and raised on the West End Tipperary Hill area of Syracuse. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1943 and later attended Syracuse University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1948 and master’s degree in education in 1954, according to his obituary.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and continued to serve in the Army Reserves until 1956. He earned a Bronze Star medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against the enemy and also earned the Cross for Conspicuous Service. He was later chosen to participate in the Honor Flight Syracuse Mission in 2017.
