Racers swept by SEMO in Missouri Posted By: Simon Elfrink May 6, 2021 Jakob Milani jmilani@murraystate.edu It was a tough weekend for the Murray State softball team as they were swept by SEMO in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on Saturday, May 1, and Sunday, May 2. The Racers managed to score seven runs against the Redhawks and allowed 11 runs across three games. Game One Junior right-hander Hannah James was started on the mound for the Racers in game one. She went on to pitch the entire seven inning game, striking out eight batters and allowing just three hits. The Redhawks gave junior right-hander Rachel Rook the start on the mound for game one. She also pitched the entire game with nine strikeouts in the game and just one hit allowed.

Posted By: Simon Elfrink April 29, 2021 Jakob Milani jmilani@murraystate.edu The Murray State softball team won their second straight series on April 23, through April 25, when they defeated EIU two games to one.  Game One Junior right-hander Hannah James took the mound for the Racers in game one and saw trouble early. James gave up three hits in the first three innings, but the Racers defense helped hold the Panthers scoreless. The Racers took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third when senior shortstop Sierra Gilmore singled up the middle to bring home senior center fielder Jensen Striegel. The Racers extended their lead in the fourth inning with a double from senior first baseman Lexi Jones, making it a 2-0 ballgame.

Softball takes two of three over Belmont Posted By: Simon Elfrink April 22, 2021 Jakob Milani jmilani@murraystate.edu After some recent struggles, the Murray State softball team came within one game of a three-game sweep over the Belmont Bruins on April 17 and 18. Despite dominating in the first two games of the series, the  Bruins took the final game with back-to-back home runs in the tenth inning, eliminating the Racers’ chance for the sweep. Game One The Racers got the series started with junior right-hander Hannah James on the mound. She made a quick impact for the Racers, striking out the first batter she faced and forcing the next two batters into groundouts. She allowed just two hits from the Bruins through the next three innings, giving the Racers a huge boost on defense.
