10 new cases of COVID-19 in Muskoka Wednesday

SHARE ON: The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit recorded ten new COVID-19 cases and added six recoveries in the District of Muskoka on Wednesday.  Six cases were added in Bracebridge, two females and one male under 17 years old, one 18 to 34-year-old male, one 35 to 44-year-old female and one 45 to 64-year-old male. In addition, two more people from Bracebridge recovered placing the town at 23 active cases including one in hospital.  Huntsville saw two new cases added, one 35 to 44-year-old female and one 45 to 64-year-old male, and two more residents recovered keeping the town at 19 active cases.    One case was removed from Lake of Bays’ case count and one recovery was added bringing the town down to seven active cases. 

Muskoka s COVID-19 test positivity and cases per 100,000 highest since pandemic began

The Simcoe Muskoka District continues to see a sharp incline in COVID-19 cases. In his weekly update, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Charles Gardner said cases in Muskoka are starting to increases as well, not only Simcoe.  Dr. Gardner said almost 20 percent of cases reported in both districts are a result of gathering that occurred over the Easter weekend.  The District of Muskoka’s test positivity, the percentage of tests coming back positive per day, has gone up from two percent to 3.9 percent this week, the highest in the district since the pandemic began.  Dr. Gardner also notes that Muskoka’s overall incidence of cases of 44 per 100,000 population, along with the 3.9 percent test positivity, would be categorized as red status. 

One COVID-19 case added in Gravenhurst Tuesday

SHARE ON: Only one new case of COVID-19 was reported in the District of Muskoka today(Tuesday).  The new case, an 18 to 34-year-old male, was reported in Gravenhurst pushing the town to three active cases.  No change to active case counts was reported elsewhere with Huntsville at 11, Bracebridge at ten, Lake of Bays at eight, Muskoka Lakes at five and Georgian Bay at none.  84 new cases were reported in Simcoe pushing that county to over 1,250 active cases.  Over 10,000 vaccine doses were administered in the Simcoe Muskoka District yesterday with over 18 percent of the populations now having received one shot, and over three percent fully immunized.

Simcoe Muskoka s increase in daily COVID-19 cases substantial ; Dr Gardner

SHARE ON: The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Charles Gardner (Photo taken on Zoom) The Simcoe Muskoka District has seen a concerning and substantial increase in new COVID-19 cases over the last week.  The region’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Charles Gardner said our region saw a 44 percent increase in daily cases week on week.  Dr. Gardner also noted the region is seeing its highest number yet of people in intensive care with 41 people currently hospitalized, 13 of which in intensive care. He added those in intensive care nowadays appear to be younger people with about 36 percent of intensive care admissions under the age of 60, compared to 13 percent same time of last year.
