Airtel Africa appoints Ogunsanya as managing director/CEO The telco said it would announce a new MD/CEO for its Nigerian division soon. Telecommunications giant and mobile money services provider, Airtel Africa Plc, Thursday, announced the appointment of Olusegun Ogunsanya, who heads its Nigerian unit, as its new managing director and CEO to replace Raghunath Mandava, who has informed the board of his decision to retire. “Segun Ogunsanya will join the board of Airtel Africa Plc with effect from 1 October 2021,” the telco said in a note to the Nigerian Exchange Limited seen by PREMIUM TIMES. An electronics engineer as well as a chartered accountant, Mr Ogunsanya has since 2012 been the managing director and chief executive of Airtel’s Nigerian operations, its biggest market of the 14 countries on the continent where the company has presence.

The statement from Airtel Africa reads, “Segun Ogunsanya joined Airtel Africa in 2012 as the Managing Director and CEO Nigeria and has been responsible for the overall management of its operations in Nigeria, the largest market in Africa. ‘Segun has more than 25 years of business management experience in banking, consumer goods and telecoms. Before joining Airtel in 2012, Segun held leadership roles at Coca-Cola in Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya (as the Managing Director and the Chief Executive Officer) before joining Airtel. He has also been the Managing Director of Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd (Coca-Cola Hellenic owned) and Group Head of retail banking operations at Ecobank Transnational Inc, covering 28 countries in Africa. He is an Electronics Engineer and also a chartered accountant.

Airtel signs $500m loan with Bank of America, others

Punch Newspapers Sections Published 21 April 2021 Airtel Africa has announced the signing of a new $500m loan facility with a group of relationship banks to partially refinance the group’s €750m Euro-denominated bond (c.$880m) due May 20, 2021. According to a statement signed by its Group Company Secretary, Simon O’Hara, on Wednesday, the banks that participated in the facility include, Bank of America, BNP Paribas, Citibank, HSBC, J.P. Morgan, Standard Chartered Bank, and two Indian relationship banks, Axis Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank. O’Hara said the new committed facility consisted of a combination of a revolving credit facility and term loans with tenor of up to four years.
