David Moore announces candidacy for Illinois Secretary of State Delmarie Cobb, PR MACOMB Chicago South Side Alderman David Moore has announced his run for Illinois Secretary of State to replace retiring long time incumbent Jesse White. “He has run the office with great integrity and character while professionally conducting the business of the Secretary of State. I have decided to accept the call to build on such a rich legacy, said Moore at his alma mater, Western Illinois University in Macomb. Despite overcast skies, Moore s crowd of supporters was a rainbow of diversity, spanning a range of ethnicities. “This campus is where I learned to love Illinois. I met so many people from different parts of the state, different ethnicities, different religions and different political parties. I still have many of the friendships and relationships that I developed while at Western,” said Moore, as supporters chanted his slogan,  Moore for Illinois!

Mary Flowers who in January became the longest-serving African American lawmaker in the Illinois General Assembly’s history has fought to pass health care reform and advocate for groups marginalized by systemic racism. It’s a fighting spirit the 69-year-old lawmaker inherited from her mother, who worked in a factory and other odd jobs to provide for her seven children, and one that she honed while following in the footsteps of Black legislative leaders in Illinois who preceded her.
