Live music. My lifeblood. The passion I have been writing, talking, radio, television and podcasting (coming soon) about since college. I am an evangelist, for its uplifting, healing, soul satisfying qualities. Look out, I will drag you to a show you shouldn’t miss.
And now, for the first time ever, I, we, have all had to live without it for lo these 14 long, lackadaisical months. Might as well be in Taliban Afghanistan. Why did I not die, just wither away?
Because we humans can adjust to anything. It’s not like I got up every morning thinking about it, teardrops splashing into my coffee. I have tried to not think about it. No sense putting time, effort, heart and soul into things you know you cannot change.
This digging up of the great shows I saw in the last year of it, 2019?
Maybe. Nostalgia for the long-ago world of a year ago, when we were still able to hear live music and mostly took that for granted?
Well, who could have known? Live music has been around for millenia. Hmmm I wonder if Caruso stopped performing during the great flu pandemic? He died in 1921, so, probably. Before that, black plague and so on, they didn’t know much about disease transmission so kept going to the theater and gathering for wandering minstrels, and so, died happy with a song in their hearts.
Innovation award for Donegal man
Details of the winners of this year’s awards were announced last week at a virtual ceremony.

Speaking to the Donegal News this week John Ward, Managing Director of Ward Automation, said that he was delighted to win the award.
“It’s a fantastic award for us. It gives us great exposure and credit to the whole team. We’ve people here with us from almost the beginning so it’s not just family. We have other very strong people here,” he said.
AND THE YEAR IS… 2019!
Four weeks ago I listed the best local concerts of the previous year. But it was a pretty short list: five shows, in a COVID-crippled year. NICOLE RECOMMENDS added nine more, and six of them were in one long weekend.
But the year before that boy howdy! “What a banner year 2019 was,” I wrote. “A cornucopia of amazing performances, large and small.” There were too many great shows I missed, but here are more of the ones I caught, that caught my imagination, in 2019. (List started last Thursday, at the beginning of the year.)
