AFP/File KARACHI: Despite second and third waves of Covid-19, the collection of the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department rose Rs17 billion, or 26.36 per cent, to Rs81.5bn during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year compared to Rs64.5bn collected in the same period last year. Data released by the E&T department showed that in July-April FY21 the total collection in the heads of motor vehicle tax, infrastructure cess, professional tax, property tax, cotton fees and entertainment duty reached Rs81.5bn upped around Rs10bn in April alone as by the end of March total tax collection stood at Rs71.8bn.

465kg hashish, 400kg bhang seized in 15 days Karachi March 13, 2021 The Sindh Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control Department has foiled attempts to smuggle 465 kilograms of hashish and 400 kilograms of bhang and also arrested five suspects during four major operations in the last fortnight. The spokesman for the department said on Thursday excise personnel foiled an attempt to bring a large quantity of hashish to Karachi. During a search of a truck at the Jacobabad check post near the Agriculture College on Shikarpur Road, 140 kilograms of hashish was found, and Muhammad Tahir, resident of Jamshoro, was arrested. The excise team also impounded the truck.

FBR refunds Rs1bln to Sindh Business January 30, 2021 KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has refunded Rs1 billion to the Sindh government account that was recovered as an outstanding amount from the provincial excise and taxation department, sources said on Friday. The FBR had issued a refund of Rs1 billion to the Excise and Taxation Department of the Sindh government and the amount had been directly credited to the Sindh government non-food account by the Centralized Income Tax Refund Office, FBR Headquarters, Islamabad, the sources said, adding that the amount was related to the tax year 2016. The refund is part of the refundable amount of Rs5 billion determined by the revenue board on September 29, 2020, through an order under section 161 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 for the tax year 2016 after the earlier order was remanded back by the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue (ATIR) for de novo proceedings.
