With Pune Municipal Corporation (
PMC) floating fresh tender, earlier this month, for doing the survey for the proposed Kothrud-Panchavati tunnel,
citizens have raised objection to the project on several grounds, primarily its environmental impact. However, authorities are not exactly deterred by this, pointing out that suggestions and objections of citizens will be entertained once the feasibility report is in.
The tunnel was proposed in the 2007 development plan for the city and in 2017 the civic body had commissioned a survey for the tunnel. However, the process got held up with permissions not coming in from defence establishments and research institutions that are located near the site.
