DePaul’s Student Government Association (SGA) highlighted the initiatives its members worked on last quarter in its Winter Quarter Transparency Report.
The report, obtained by The DePaulia, explains how SGA “advocated for student concerns, especially with the continued stress of remote learning,” and supported marginalized communities at DePaul during the winter quarter.
According to the report, SGA “released a statement condemning the violent insurrection at our nation’s Capitol and amplified the [Black Student Union]’s list of demands” to advocate for marginalized students and plans to release a solidarity statement in support of the APIDA community at DePaul, “further supporting their needs, especially with the rise of anti-Asian hate crimes in the past year.”

DePaul Student Government Association’s (SGA) executive vice presidents presented on the initiatives senators have been working on this past quarter during the last general body meeting of the term on Thursday.
SGA Executive Vice President of Student Affairs Marcus Robertson said Cindy Rocha, SGA’s senator for commuter students, has worked on data collection from commuter students to create a survey asking students about the length of their commute to help commuter students receive priority class registration. In addition, Rocha is collaborating with Courtney James, SGA’s adviser and the director of the Office of Student Involvement, on a podcast discussing the resources offered by University Counseling Services.

DePaul’s Student Government Association (SGA) passed three resolutions regarding registration for commuter students, commencement planning for the Class of 2021 and the university’s reversal to its regular grading policies, respectively, during its first general body meeting of the quarter on Thursday.
The first resolution advocates for commuter students to have an earlier enrollment period when registering for classes.
Under the “Resolution Concerning Earlier Registration for Commuter Students,” earlier enrollment dates for commuter students would be divided into time-based brackets. These brackets would correspond with the student’s regular enrollment time and date. Students commuting more than two hours to campus would be given first priority while students with a 30-minute commute or less would fall into the fourth bracket.
