There is a specific moment when a feeling of bewilderment and inspiration hits the people who walk into UAB football’s new stadium in downtown Birmingham.
It’s when they first walk up the steps of the pavilion on the north side of the stadium and gaze southward out across the field and the city and then Red Mountain beyond. From that vantage point, people see more than a construction site in downtown Birmingham. They’re looking out into the future.
Cut from of the old-school backstop mold, Bean’s sturdy frame can withstand plenty of punishment around home plate – and this all-3A KingCo performer’s powerful bat sends softballs deep into the night.
Megan Cotton, Eastlake, senior
You could say this Akron University signee was born to be a catcher. She is the loudest voice on the field, she has a natural pitch-frame knack and she is hyper-competitive. And, oh yeah, she has one of the sweetest swings in 4A KingCo.
Kekai Schultz, Ridgefield, senior
All she’s done in her career is get big key hits in big games for the 2A-contending Spudders. And after early years of playing in the infield, this St. Martin’s signee moved to catcher last spring – and has easily been the program’s best all-around athlete.

Catcher: Sydney Wells, Selah, sr.
Arm talent runs in the family – she is the daughter of ex-MLB pitcher Bob Wells. But this Fordham signee also hits moonshots and has speed.
Corner infielder: Alysia Fraly, Prairie, jr.
The last time anyone saw this all-4A GSHL third baseman, she was damaging concession stands with her long home runs as a ninth grader in 2019.
Corner infielder: Kaiea Higa, Tahoma, jr.
This third baseman is arguably the best slugger in the state, and committed to Oregon State where her mom (Michelle Trujillo-Higa) played.
