Pacific Gas and Electric announced Wednesday that it intends to lay 10,000 miles of underground power lines throughout California, beginning in high-risk fire areas.
PG&E CEO Patti Poppe made the announcement at a news conference in Chico Wednesday, days after the utility company reported to the California Public Utilities Commission that their equipment may have been involved in sparking the Dixie Fire, which has forced evacuations in Butte and Plumas counties.

Woman in hospital after tent catches on fire
One woman is in the hospital with serious burns to her body after a tent fire in Chico Wednesday morning.

CHICO, Calif. - One woman is in the hospital with serious burns to her body after a tent fire in Chico Wednesday morning.
The fire exploded near the entrance of Comanche Creek, a few blocks away from the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds.
Firefighters arrived shortly after 5 a.m. and found a woman who had burns to her hands and face, according to a Chico Battalion Fire Chief.
