SALTON CITY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a 37-year-old man of Mexican nationality attempting to smuggle fentanyl and methamphetamine through an immigration checkpoint Tuesday night.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m., when a blue 2011 Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck approached the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint. A Border Patrol K-9 detection team alerted to the semi-truck in the primary inspection lane. Agents directed the truck to enter the secondary inspection area for further investigation.

Border Patrol agents arrest gang member in desert near Calexico
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents recently stopped a gang member with multiple felony convictions from re-entering the United States.
Agents say they encountered a man early Friday morning about 22-miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry. They say they took him into custody and brought him to a processing center.
That s where a background check revealed the 41-year-old Mexican national had multiple felony convictions, in both Imperial and Los Angeles Counties, for crimes including Grand Theft, Robbery, Evasion, and Re-entry of a Deported Felon. Agents say records show he served more than eight-years in prison before being deported in 2004.

MS-13 gang member arrested
An undocumented migrant from El Salvador arrested by El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents Thursday afternoon proved to be an MS-13 gang member, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection release.
The incident occurred about 3:45 p.m., when an agent assigned to the Indio Station performed a vehicle stop on a 2005 Honda Odyssey near the intersection of Spa Road and Hot Mineral Spa Road.
The agent performed an immigration inspection on both driver and passenger of the vehicle. The driver said he was a U.S. citizen and presented a valid passport. The passenger, however, said he was a citizen of El Salvador and admitted to being illegally present in the United States.

INDIO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents made a big drug bust in Indio early Thursday morning taking pounds and pounds of methamphetamine off the streets.
Agents say during a traffic stop, a drug-sniffing K-9 alerted them to a problem with a Nissan. They say the dog led them to the trunk, where agents say they found a suspiciously heavy spare tire. They say that tire, and a portable speaker, were all packed with packages of meth.
