A factory in the northern Vietnamese province of Hai Duong has been locked down after a COVID-19 cluster was detected on Thursday, leaving over 2,000 workers stranded inside the facility.
Vietnam Poyun Electronics Co. Ltd., located at Cong Hoa Industrial Park in Chi Linh City, Hai Duong Province, started to be sealed off from noon on Thursday.
More than 2,000 workers of the firm had gone to work on the morning of the same day.
Following the lockdown, they were unable to leave the factory and needed their friends and family members to supply food, blankets, and other essential items.

Three northern Vietnam localities recorded 14 Covid-19 local cases Thursday evening, bringing the total confirmed community transmissions in a single day to 98.
Dang Quang Tan, head of the General Department of Preventative Medicine under the Ministry of Health, said Hai Duong Province recorded an additional 11 Covid-19 local cases Thursday evening, bringing the total confirmed community cases in the province to 84.

Vietnam reported 53 new Covid-19 community transmissions, all related to the latest outbreak, and one imported case Friday evening.
One of the new cases is a two-year-old girl in the northern province of Bac Ninh. Patient 1652, is the daughter of Patient 1565 , whose address is in Hai Duong Province. The mother’s case is related to the Covid-19 hotspot in the province’s Chi Linh Town.

The Health Ministry confirmed nine more Covid-19 patients in Hanoi and several northern provinces Friday morning, all related to cases in the nation s latest outbreak.
Hanoi has detected one patient, who is linked to patient 1553, a 31-year-old employee of the Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh Province who was confirmed infected Thursday morning.
Two other cases were confirmed in Quang Ninh. They are both linked to the airport staff.

Health authorities are moving fast to contain Vietnam’s latest COVID-19 outbreaks which so far include a total of 84 new cases in northern provinces.
How the outbreaks were discovered
On January 27, Vietnam’s Ministry of Health announced that a factory worker living in Hai Duong Province tested positive for the UK variant of SARS-CoV-2 on January 26 after landing in Japan on January 17. She flew from Hanoi to Osaka via Singapore and tested negative before departure. The update prompted Vietnam to restart contact tracing in the province and testing the worker’s immediate social circle.
The search yielded Case 1,552, a 34-year-old coworker who had direct contact with the case in Japan. They worked together at a factory in Chi Linh City, Hai Duong.
