Vietnam is speeding up its COVID-19 vaccination to ensure the country will have used up the doses provided by COVAX, co-led by the World Health Organization, three weeks before expiry dates.
Coronavirus vaccines tend to have a six-month expiry period but the AstraZeneca shots Vietnam received from COVAX last month are to expire within two months from delivery, the Ministry of Health said during a teleconference on COVID-19 prevention on Friday morning.
On April 1,
811,200 AstraZeneca doses arrived in Vietnam as part of 30 million shots the COVAX scheme had promised to supply to the country free of charge this year.

Vietnam has fared very well during this COVID-19 pandemic as the Department of Preventive Medicine with the Ministry of Health says the country ranks 172th in the world, 41st in Asia and 7th in Southeast Asia in the number of cases.

To date, 2362 cases have been confirmed since the start of the pandemic, including 35 deaths.
However, in the third epidemic from January 25 to now, Vietnam has recorded 755 cases in 13 provinces and cities. Among the most recorded cases in Hai Duong is 575.
According to Dr. Dang Quang Tan, there are some differences of the outbreak in Hai Duong and Da Nang.

Three northern Vietnam localities recorded 14 Covid-19 local cases Thursday evening, bringing the total confirmed community transmissions in a single day to 98.
Dang Quang Tan, head of the General Department of Preventative Medicine under the Ministry of Health, said Hai Duong Province recorded an additional 11 Covid-19 local cases Thursday evening, bringing the total confirmed community cases in the province to 84.
