Shasta County releases special election costs to recall supervisors

Cathy Darling Allen, Shasta County’s top elections official, has set the record straight on the cost of a special election to recall three supervisors.
In a news release, Darling Allen said she “has been informed of various claims about the cost of a special, local recall election are being discussed by the public. We take this opportunity to provide the following official information. This information was developed in response to a request from the Department of Finance.”
The estimated cost for a special stand-alone election to recall one supervisor is $400,000. That cost goes up to $520,000 for two supervisors and $640,000 for three supervisors, County Clerk and Registrar of Voters Darling Allen said in her statement last Friday.

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. – The 2020 Zogg Fire destroyed more than 200 structures and burned 56,000 acres across Shasta and Tehama counties.
On Wednesday, a settlement was reached between those counties and PG&E. A collective settlement of $12.36 million was made between the two counties and PG&E. John Fiske, who represents both counties in the lawsuit said a majority of that money would go towards Shasta County.
Local leaders set new guidelines for behavior during Board of Supervisors meetings. Over the past few months, tension has run high at several Board of Supervisors meetings.

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif.- A Grand Jury recommends censure for Shasta County Supervisor Leonard Moty after he took advantage of his position as a local leader by using his special access to evacuation zones to refuel his home generators after the Carr Fire, said a new grand jury report.
Butte County Public Health said the several hundred Covid-19 cases reported over the weekend are too large for Public Health staff to confirm and report. The county skipped its usual case number update on Monday. Public Health officials say they will work to verify the number of cases over the next coming days. But since the start of this month, the county has added 746 new cases.
California to receive extra doses of Pfizer vaccine
California Gov. Gavin Newsom said California can expect another 390,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine next week. In the North State, the wait could be a bit longer. Enloe Medical Center officials said it expects to receive its first 5,000 doses of the vaccine possibly by the end of the week. Mercy Medical Center in Redding hopes to see the first batch as early as today or Wednesday.
