Moderna vaccine arrives in Shasta County

REDDING, Calif. –The second Covid-19 vaccine, Moderna, arrived in Shasta County on December 22.
The Moderna vaccine does not require as strict storage requirements, as Pfizer. This is why that particular vaccine is being held at Shasta County Public Health, while Pfizer is being kept at Mercy Medical Center.
Moderna can be kept in a refrigerator between 36 and 46 degrees Celsius for up to a month, while Pfizer must be stored between minus 70 and 10 degrees Celsius.
The Good News Rescue Mission was hit with several cases of coronavirus.

REDDING, Calif. – The Good News Rescue Mission was hit with several cases of coronavirus.
The Rescue Mission says several of its staff, volunteers, and people in their program caught Covid-19. With several cases, the shelter is facing of a shortage of volunteers for some of its services, like its kitchen.
For Francesca Hill and Richard Matteson, who are homeless, they spend their nights at the Rescue Mission. The news of staff and volunteers out because of coronavirus leaves them feeling uncertain.

Surging infections is making the need for the vaccine all the more urgent. But with limited supplies, the state in divvying up the next 8 million doses expected early next year.

Next in line include 1.1 million first responders, 3.4 million food workers, and 1.4 million teachers and childcare workers.

ANDERSON, Calif. – Nursing homes in Shasta County are still waiting to hear when they’ll be getting the Covid-19 vaccines.
Since March, Jean Howell has been stuck behind the walls of Oak River Rehab. The pandemic preventing people from visiting their loved ones.
“It s the first time in my life I haven t be able to participate with my family,” said Howell. “I couldn t even go out to get Christmas cards or anything.”
Shasta County expects Covid-19 vaccine to arrive this week
With the Covid-19 vaccine here in California, Shasta County Public Health expects to receive its delivery on either Dec. 15 or Dec. 16.

REDDING, Calif. – With the COVID-19 vaccine here in California, Shasta County Public Health expects it to be delivered on December 15 or December 16.
Mercy Medical Center will serve as both the distribution and storage site.
Once Mercy gets the vaccine then other health care facilities can pick up their allotted doses. Shasta County Public Health says it s up to each healthcare facility to decide how to administer the vaccine to staff.
