Staff at Salisbury District Hospital’s vaccination hub have another reason to feel proud this week, having completed their mission to administer both doses of a Covid vaccine to staff, other health and social care workers and some extremely vulnerable patients. The hub, located in the Odstock Health and Fitness Centre, opened for the first time on December 29, initially targeting individuals in the priority groups (patients aged 80 or above, high-risk and vulnerable NHS staff and care home staff). Consultant Anaesthetist Duncan Murray was the first staff member to receive the first dose. Since then, 13,000 vaccinations have been given and now that all staff have received their second dose, the vaccination hub has closed.
THE president of Salisbury and District Chamber of Commerce and a former Amesbury mayor has shared a special childhood memory of meeting and getting teased by the Duke of Edinburgh. Andy Rhind-Tutt met Prince Philip who was accompanying the Queen on a visit to Salisbury on March 28, 1974. He joined his family as well as many spectators in the city to see the Queen and had his camera at the ready to snap a picture of Her Royal Highness The Queen. I was eight-years-old, it was 1974 I believe and it was when the Queen and Prince Philip visited Salisbury. I believe it was the opening of the Old George Mall shopping centre, recalls Andy.
