CHARLOTTE, NC (New Release) – On April 23rd, National Lost Dog and Cat Awareness Day, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Animal Care & Control (AC&C) is proudly joining forces with Petco Love, formerly known as the Petco Foundation, a national non-profit working to lead and inspire change for animals, and animal welfare groups across the country, on a shared mission to help reunite lost pets with their families should they ever go missing. According to industry statistics, sadly, one in every three pets will go missing in their lifetime.
Petco Love Lost is a new, searchable national database that uses patented facial recognition technology to make finding lost pets quicker and easier. Beginning today, this simple-to-use tool will be easily accessible to participating animal organizations nationwide, as well as any pet parent or person who finds a lost pet. CLEVELAND, OH (News Release) – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Animal Care & Control (CMPD AC&C) has been selected as a new shelter partner of Pets for the Elderly (PFE), a national nonprofit organization that pays a portion of the fee for senior citizens (age 60 and over) to adopt a companion dog or cat from a participating PFE animal shelter . PFE recently expanded its grant program to now include animal care assistance at any of its participating shelters who apply for the grant – this includes CMPD Animal Care & Control which will use the grant funding toward providing seniors’ pets with monthly flea and tick prevention medication with an adoption.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care And Control Participates In ‘No Place Like Home Challenge’ During The Month Of March

CHARLOTTE, NC (News Release) – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Animal Care & Control (AC&C) has entered into a challenge with Maddie’s Fund during the month of March. The challenge is called No Place Like Home Challenge and will focus on getting lost pets back home by implementing new programs, strategies, and partnerships with businesses, people and pets in the Charlotte community.
“This challenge is a great way to motivate the AC&C team to think outside the box to find more ways to ensure we are doing everything we can to keep pets and people together. In 2020, AC&C returned 8% more lost pets to their homes than in 2019. 1,188 pets made their way back to their homes,” said Director of AC&C, Dr. Josh Fisher.
