Image from a “ClassBento student with a kokedama they made as part of a class” Covid-19 has changed the way we live, work and study and people have been in particular feeling these changes especially with most activities being moved online. I recently got selected by the Young Reporters Scheme to do an email interview with Laura Haveron from ClassBento to learn more about the company and spread the word, hence most parts of this article is directly linked with that conversation. Whether you’re in lockdown, quarantining, isolating or want to do something interesting at home to beat that boredom and also be involved in not just 1 or 2 but several different activities that you can learn virtually from, I’m going to be telling you more about ClassBento, which is a company that runs online classes, including art, cooking, making cocktails, gardening, chocolate making and tons more.

NHS going above and beyond in the face of covid-19 (by Charlotte Picardo, Kingsley Academy)

COVID-19 is considered the cause of a dangerous illness that affects people’s lives and, in many cases, threatens the lives of infected people. As a result, this is when the healthcare facilities play a huge part which questions; What is the role of the NHS during these unprecedented times? National Health Service is the umbrella term for the publicly funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom. Since 1948 they have been funded out of general taxation. Since the start of the pandemic, the NHS has been playing such an important role in supporting and helping all the people of the United Kingdom. They have been serving on the frontline providing holistic care for patients who have all sorts of symptoms. Considering the fact that doctors and nurses play an important aspect of the economy which are the health services. I really am inspired by their determination and motivation as they have put others first in front of them.

Looking on the brighter side of the pandemic? (by Charlotte Picardo, Kingsley Academy)

Looking on the melancholy side, The coronavirus pandemic has had a lot of dark sides since 2019, which may have made most of our lives depressing, especially with 3 lockdowns in the UK in some areas. With rise in unemployment and employees being furloughed, some working from home, online learning, disruption in exams for 2 whole years, healthcare systems are overloaded with stress, restrictions from going out, non-essential stores closed. Certainly all this is an unexpected turn but we have been trying hard to adapt to this “new normal”. Looking on the brighter side, There have been weather forecasts stating that it will be snowing in London. Well, it’s been a while since it hasn’t snowed heavily, and it’s quite sorrowful that we didn’t have a white Christmas this year. Well we can keep our hopes that we may see snow this year. Nevertheless, snow is great for the environment especially in cooling and regulating the Earth’s temperature and helping fill river reser

Will GCSE s & A-Levels go forward this 2021? Limit to opportunities? (Charlotte Picardo, Kingsley Academy)

Will GCSE’s & A-Levels go forward this 2021? Limit to opportunities? It was confirmed On Monday 12 October 2020 that “exams will go ahead next year and most AS/A level and GCSE exams will be delayed by three weeks to give pupils more time to catch up on their learning.” The UK government mentioned that if students would miss all their assessments in a subject, they would have an opportunity to sit an “contingency paper”. Coursework, essays, assignments and mock exams were used to determine the marks, but I expect that it may be the same thing this year, until the vaccine comes. It is obvious that some schools do not have space to conduct social distancing for 100+ students during exams and mocks.
