CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A tree brought down power lines in north Charlotte Tuesday morning, blocking the entrance to Shamrock Garden Elementary for a time.
The incident happened before 3 a.m. By 8 a.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said there were no delays.
The downed lines left at least 14 homes in the area without power. Power was restored by 8 a.m.

Person killed in shooting in north Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Police say a person was shot and killed in north Charlotte Tuesday evening.
The shooting happened around 9:15 p.m. on McArthur Avenue.
Officers said a person was found with a gunshot wound to the chest.
The person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police then said the person had died, prompting a homicide investigation.
No other information was provided.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. A 7-year-old girl is improving after she was shot Tuesday while playing with friends. CMPD says Zionna was caught in the crossfire between two groups who were firing at each other on Marble Street. Police arrested three people in connection with the case.
Zionna’s grandmother says the little girl has a lot of questions about why she was shot.
“She said, ‘why he shoot me? I will see him and I’m gonna ask him why did you shoot me?” says Chandra Brown.
