The change in schedule due to the Coronavirus pandemic meant a change in lunch waves. The extended lunch periods are beneficial for seniors and those who can drive because they have an ample amount of time to leave campus.
The implementation of extended periods and lunch passing time was implemented to follow COVID guidelines. More specifically, the extended passing time of eight minutes gives students enough time to leave during their lunch wave. With senior parking spots being accessible and close to the cafeteria, many students flee the cafeteria scene to go out for lunch. While they have the opportunity to do so, the school policy is that students are not allowed to leave for lunch. This is in part due to safety reasons, and for the administration to keep track of students.
The Staples girls’ lacrosse team lost to Darien 16-8 in the annual rivalry game at Darien High School Friday, April 30.
Staples began slowly, trailing the Blue Wave 4-0. The offense initially played hesitantly against the Darien defense, which caused Staples to be scoreless. While Shira Parower ’21 scored the first goal for the Wreckers halfway through the first quarter, Staples was never able to recover from the early deficit.
Leading up to the end of the second quarter, the score of the game was 10-3, so Darien maintained a major lead. Staples wasn’t able to counter Darien’s consistently strong game.

We’re at home and everybody needs a change, said Charlotte Barnes, principal of Charlotte Barnes Interior Design and Decoration. None of us have thought about our houses as much [before] because we were constantly running from here and there, working, meeting friends. Now we’re at home, and it’s a whole different feeling.
