OLATHE, Kan. â Kansas City, Missouri, leaders adopted a resolution proclaiming February, 27, 2021, as VFW Foundation Day. The Kansas City-based foundation celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
As the charitable arm of the Veterans of Foreign War, the VFW Foundation provides scholarships for veterans, grants for VFW Posts and sponsors send-off and welcome-home events before and after military deployments.
Abdurahim Sharif knows the foundationâs impact first hand. The Army veteran is a graduate student at University of Missouri - Kansas City thanks to a Sports Clips Help a Hero Scholarship from the foundation.

Lyle Davis, Sr. was born in 1909 and grew up in Carthage, Missouri, about two hours south of Kansas City. At the time, schools in Missouri were segregated and there were only about 15 high schools for Black students. No such high school existed in Carthage. So Davis, Sr.âs education ended after ninth grade even though he dreamed of attending Lincoln High School (what is now Lincoln College Preparatory Academy)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. â From a vaccine van administering COVID-19 vaccines door-to-door to a regional vaccine availability alert system, an organization called Comeback KC is working to make it easier for people in the Kansas City area to get vaccinated.
The group is made up of public and private entities in the area known collectively as C19KC. Throughout the pandemic, Comeback KC has helped raise awareness about testing and launched a risk evaluator for the region.
