KANSAS CITY, Mo. â Rob and Anissa Elsey have made some of their best memories in a place they never thought theyâd visit: an Oxford House.
The nationwide organization provides structure and a sober living environment for people recovering from drug or alcohol addiction. It has locations across the Kansas City, Missouri, area.
The Northland Kansas City couple found themselves in an Oxford House on their daughterâs journey with drug addiction.
âI have more respect for people in recovery than anybody else in the world,â Rob Elsey said plainly.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. â A new memorial for American military members killed in the Global War on Terror will become virtual instead of being housed in a Kansas City, Kansas, museum.
The American Fallen Warrior Memorial Foundation announced it is no longer pursuing a large, physical memorial and museum. While the nonprofit hopes to have some amount of a physical presence in the area, the majority of its information will now be online and accessible worldwide.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. â Bob Bennett is the COVID-19 vaccine operations director for the Unified Government Public Health Department, which covers Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas.
He gets excited when he has the chance to talk about COVID-19.
âOur goal is to end the pandemic, not just to give out shots,â he said.
And about four months into vaccine distribution, Bennett said the health department is âthe most efficient operation in pretty much the entire United States.â

KANSAS CITY, Mo. â When Lisa Thompson left the United States Air Force, the Clinton, Missouri, woman realized how much she relied on the structure and camaraderie of the military.
Five years ago, she discovered Team Rubicon, a nationwide volunteer agency geared toward giving veterans a chance to use the skills they learned in the military while helping communities recover from natural disasters.
â[I missed] having a purpose, having a mission,â Thompson explained.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. â Russell Stover may be the namesake for the Kansas City, Missouri-based chocolate company, but his wife, Clara, played a big role in the companyâs success.
Christi Jones, the direct to consumer program manager for Russell Stover Chocolates, helped 41 Action News trace Claraâs role in creating the company.
âNot only was Clara the founder, but she was a pioneer more than just in the chocolate business,â Jones pointed out.
She explained Clara and Russell met in Iowa City, Iowa, in the early 1900s. Russell was a candy salesman. Clara dreamed of opening her own candy store. She spent years tinkering with her recipes in their kitchens as the Stovers moved from city to city for Russellâs jobs.
