As deputies continue to investigate the hit-and-run collision that left a 71-year-old bicyclist seriously injured in San Marcos, authorities are offering a reward in hopes a tipster will step forward.
About 8 p.m. April 1, a passerby found the injured cyclist on the eastside of Woodland Parkway just north of Fulton Drive, sheriff’s officials said. Investigators believe he was headed north on Woodland when he was struck by a car also headed north.
The victim sustained a traumatic brain injury, the department said. Paramedics raced him to a hospital, where he was placed on life support.
Sgt. Charles Morreale said Thursday that the victim’s condition has since improved enough to be removed from life support but faces a long recovery.
NORTH COUNTY
A 23-year-old man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of stealing a car and leading deputies on a brief pursuit that began in a Vista shopping center and ended on a dead-end street in San Marcos.
The 2015 Nissan Sentra was stolen in San Diego on Christmas, but other details about the theft were not available.
On Sunday, Carlsbad police radioed information about the the stolen vehicle, seen in the area of Palomar Airport Road heading east toward San Marcos, about 1:10 p.m.
Deputies searched and found the vehicle unoccupied in the parking lot of a Target on Business Park Drive just north of Poinsettia Drive in Vista.
