Hundreds of Companies Unite To Oppose Voting Restriction Bills, Thanks to Black Executives More than 100 companies are fighting voting suppression bills that are being introduced in states across the country. Image: NAACP 62 Hundreds of the country’s top companies and corporate executives have signed a statement released Wednesday opposing “any discriminatory legislation” making voting harder for Americans. The statement and signatures represent the most aggressive action yet against Republican efforts to restrict voting access to ensure victories at the polls. Since former President Donald Trump’s election loss, more than 100 bills restricting voting have been introduced in 48 states. Last month Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed into law the most restrictive voting bills since the Jim Crow era.

The Black Execs Who Rallied CEOs to Fight Restrictive Voting Laws

Charles Phillips, former CEO of Infor, said they texted and emailed hundreds of companies. Over the course of 3 weeks, companies came together to speak out against the Georgia law. Hundreds of companies signed a statement Wednesday that condemned restrictive voting laws, like the one passed in Georgia last month.  The final statement, which appeared in a two-page ad in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA TODAY, and the Washington Post, was the result of a three-week effort from five Black executives: Kenneth Chenault, Kenneth Frazier, William M. Lewis Jr., Clarence Otis Jr., and Charles Phillips. Phillips told Insider that civil rights groups began reaching out on Sunday, March 28, to discuss issues with the Georgia voting bill, the Election Integrity Act of 2021.
