Charles City, IA High-quality instruction for our youngest Comets is the top priority for the newest senior leader with the Charles City Community Schools. Nanette Smith will begin leading as the Washington Elementary School principal this summer.
Smith is currently the preschool – third-grade principal at West Marshall Community Schools in State Center, IA. She will begin her new leadership role in the Charles City Community Schools on July 1. Her hometown is Britt, IA, where she grew up on the family farm with her parents, two brothers, and a sister. Her first teaching position was as a special education teacher in Kirksville, MO. She has also worked in Southeast Polk CSD in Pleasant Hill, IA, Greene County Middle School in Jefferson, IA, and Prairie Lakes Area Education Agency.
Charles City, IA – Dana Sullivan accepts a new position as she becomes Charles City’s new Middle School Associate Principal. Sullivan was approved at the March 8 Charles City Board of Education meeting. Sullivan is the top pick out of 35 applicants. She will be working alongside the Charles City Middle School principal Joe Taylor.
Sullivan joined the Charles City Community School family in 2014 as a 7th-grade math teacher. She later became a high school math teacher and now is working in the business department. She will begin her new role on July 1, 2021.
Sullivan was raised in a farming family in Fairbank, Iowa. Her dad continues to operate the family farm and her mom now works at Dunlap Motors in Independence. Sullivan attended Wapsie Valley Community Schools District in Fairbank. After high school, Sullivan attended the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) while earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She received her teaching license through Buena Vista University and is
Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he s good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
