UPDATE: APRIL 21 AT 7:09 A.M.
CHOTEAU, Mont. - Fire crews monitored hot spots overnight at the Gunther Apartments in Choteau and the Teton County Sheriffâs Office will investigate the exact cause of the fire that was a result of an explosion Tuesday afternoon. Two people were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation. A front left corner of the apartment complex is left standing, which may be the area where the fire started.Â
According to Choteau Volunteer Fire Department Incident Commander Mike Leys, the building was over 100 years old and was made of lumber. His team rushed to the scene within 7 minutes Tuesday and rescued a handicapped man from the second floor. He said there was some ammo going off in apartment buildings Tuesday evening. Cans were still exploding and a fire was burning in the basement Wednesday morning.Â
