Judge indicates that he wants to keep gag order in Killeen capital murder case

During a status hearing on Wednesday in the county’s oldest unresolved capital murder case, a Bell County judge indicated that he would like to keep the gag order that he put in place in 2015. Defense attorneys for Marvin Louis Guy, who has been held in the Bell County Jail since being booked more than seven years ago, filed a motion on June 4 to have the order lifted. The gag order prevents members of the media from obtaining comments outside of court from attorneys or any other people involved in the case. The 27th Judicial District Court judge indicated that he would like to keep it in place.

There’s even a hashtag: #FreeMarvinGuy. “Just let him out!! He’s served his time!!”, commented one person on a recent story. Others urge folks not to forget the victim, Charles “Chuck” Dinwiddie, who was a respected Killeen Police Department detective and SWAT team member. He left behind a wife and two children. Marvin Louis Guy, 56, is accused of shooting Dinwiddie on May 9, 2014, when officers tried to serve a no-knock narcotics warrant at Guy’s home on Circle M Drive in Killeen. Dinwiddie died two days later. Three other officers were wounded during the incident. Guy, a suspected drug dealer, has said that he did not know it was police officers who were entering the apartment in the early-morning hours and that he fired in self-defense.
