Man arrested after boarding plane in US government VIP fleet at Joint Base Andrews A man gained access to a C-40 aircraft on Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Thursday that’s part of a fleet frequently utilized by senior government leaders, the base said in a statement Friday. 5 Airmen from the Virginia Air National Guard were home just in time for the holidays after a rapid deployment to the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command area of responsibility (AOR). More than 35 members assigned to the 192nd Maintenance Group returned to Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia on Dec. 19, 2020, after the joint mobilization with the 1st Fighter Wing’s 94th Fighter Squadron. Enjoy an unprecedented walkaround and cockpit tour of the Russian-built Mi-24D “Hind” gunship helicopter used in threat simulation by the U.S. Air Force. The Mi-24D is a variant of the Mi-24 “Hind”, a pretty famous attack helicopter that gained notoriety during the Soviet-era war with Afghanistan. During that conflict, the threat posed by the durable and heavily-armed Soviet gunships was recognized by U.S. intelligence agencies which supported Taliban guerillas with Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS) such as the FIM-92 Stinger missiles provided through several cover organizations to the insurgents in November 1987 through January 1988.
