48 Hours Covers Pettit Case This Weekend
After Scott and Janet Pettit were found dead in their Modesto, Calif., home in 2013, their son, Brandon, was accused of hiring a friend to kill them. Investigators maintained that he wanted his parents’ money to start a new life. His sister says her brother loved their parents and there’s no way he did it. She vows to fight for his freedom.

The ransomware attack on Colonial Pipeline temporarily shut off 45 percent of the East Coast’s fuel supply and that predictably started a run on gasoline.
While authorities repeatedly told drivers not to hoard gasoline, many people ignored their pleas and started filling up every container they had – even plastic bags.
It was only a matter of time until something went wrong and that happened on Wednesday, when a Hummer H2 went up in flames with approximately 20 gallons (76 liters) of gasoline in its cargo compartment.

A California man was arrested nearly eight years ago for the murders of his parents, who were found fatally shot and left in their burning home.
In August 2013, parents Scott and Janet Pettit, both 59, were discovered dead in their Modesto home. Firefighters were called to the scene after neighbors reported flames billowing out from the windows, according to reports.
Both parents had gunshot wounds, and police say the fire was a cover-up and started with an accelerant, which was scattered across the home.
