LOS FELIZ On November 30, the Justice System Integrity Division of Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office issued a public statement noting that the officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a Trader Joe’s manager in July 2018 ruled the Los Angeles Police Department was “justified in using deadly force in an attempt to stop” the suspect, Gene Evin Atkins, 28.
Melyda Corado, 27, was accidentally killed during a shootout outside the store. Los Angeles Police Officers Sinlen Tse and Sarah Winans indicated they had no other choice, but to open fire on Atkins.
“I had no alternative but to fire my weapon at Gene Atkins in order to stop this deadly threat that he, himself, had created,” Tse said. “I fired based upon his actions and stopped when I realized he was moving into the Trader Joe’s entrance to avoid striking individuals inside, despite the fact that he was still considered a violent fleeing felon and continued to pose an imminent thre

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Los Angeles police officer who fired the shot that accidentally killed an assistant manager during a gunfight with a suspect outside the Trader Joe s store in Silver Lake in 2018 says in a sworn declaration that he had no choice but to open fire to protect himself, his partner and bystanders.
The District Attorney s Office released a report this week finding that Officers Sinlen Tse and Sarah Winans were “justified in using deadly force in an attempt to stop the suspect, Gene Evin Atkins.

Relatives of Corado filed a wrongful death and negligence suit against the city and the officers in Los Angeles Superior Court in November 2018. The city filed a motion to dismiss the suit on Dec. 1, using declarations from both officers to bolster their case. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The family of a woman who was killed as a result of a police gunfight with a suspect outside the Trader Joe s store in Silver Lake where she worked said today they want to meet with new Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon and ask him to re-evaluate whether the officers acted lawfully.

LOS ANGELES - In 2018, Melyda Corado was fatally struck with a Los Angeles Police Department bullet as two officers engaged in a gunfight with a suspect outside a Silver Lake Trader Joe s. She was working that day as the store s assistant manager.
Since then, her father and brother have been searching for answers as to why their loved one, a bystander in the entire ordeal, was killed.
