It’s probably the biggest jazz concert you’ll ever see in Queenstown.
To mark its 10th anniversary, the Queenstown Jazz Orchestra’s putting on a celebration concert in the Queenstown Memorial Centre on August 7.
Along with its usual 16-piece ‘big band’ line-up, it’s inviting back past players and vocalists from as far afield as Waiheke Island and Stewart Island.
Orchestra secretary and sax player Sarah Lyttle an ex-New Zealand Youth Jazz Band member says after the full house they got in February for a concert with NZ’s foremost big band leader Rodger Fox, ‘‘the feeling from the community was exceptional’’.

The baton’s been passed on at Queenstown’s music school.
Sarah Lyttle is the first general manager of the Turn Up The Music Trust, replacing administrator Sue Marshall, who’s now become a trustee.
Lyttle a Queenstown Jazz Orchestra saxophonist and one-time New Zealand Youth Jazz Band player was for merly contracted to set up umbrella arts organisation, Three Lakes Cultural Trust.
Turn Up The Music, which took over from the Lakes Community Music School two years ago, last year had 113 students from pre-primary age to Year 13 and 13 teachers teaching a wide variety of instruments, and numbers are again looking good this year.

Abe Martin Lodge and Brown County IGA have partnered to offer meal pickups on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Christmas Eve carry out is available at the Little Gem Restaurant from 11 a.m. to 6 pm. on Thursday, Dec. 24. Customers can also preorder and pay for delivery at noon or 5 p.m. at the IGA, 30 Hawthorne Drive. The meal is $22 per person and includes Abe’s fried chicken, deviled eggs, honey brown sugar glazed ham, loaded mashed potatoes, broccoli cauliflower casserole, macaroni and cheese, rolls, sweet potato pie and a fire roasted peach crisp.
