Iowa City events replace festival that was canceled because of COVID

View Comments In a year when a traditional Mission Creek Festival was impossible, Iowa City residents are getting more instances of the music and literature festival than ever before. On Monday, the Englert Theatre announced Mission Creek Summer Sessions, a series of free outdoor performances celebrating music and literature. The first event will take place on June 10 at 6:30 p.m. when musician Elizabeth Moen and spoken-word-poet Sara McGuirk will perform on the Weatherdance Stage in Iowa City s ped mall. The series is set to consist of four outdoor performances occurring over as many months. The next performance is scheduled for July 8 at 6:30 p.m. in Willow Creek Park and the final performance is set for Sept. 9 in the Northside District.

The Iowa City Bike Library has purchased a building at 1222 South Gilbert Court,” ICBL posted to its Facebook page Tuesday morning. “Situated South of CommUnity, two blocks away from Big Grove, and still within the Blinky Light District–we are very happy about our new location and can’t wait to give you a socially distant grand tour.”
