Carlisle animal charity gives thanks for new boiler

It means the charity will now be able to keep warm in the winter. After their 15-year-old boiler broke at the worst possible time of year, Oak Tree Animals’ Charity launched an appeal to the public to help fund a replacement – and they couldn’t have imagined a better response. After launching their appeal, more than 340 kind supporters donated online or sent a cheque. The cost of replacing the boiler, came to more than £11,000, and now, because of more than 340 people, the cost has been covered. Sarah Batty, Oak Tree’s fundraising and communications manager, said: “The combined contributions made by the general public have raised a phenomenal amount in a really short space of time. We have been completely overwhelmed by the generosity demonstrated by our supporters, and would like to thank everyone for their incredible kindness, especially in these difficult times”.

No let up for staff and volunteers at animal charity near Carlisle

THERE’LL be no let up for staff and volunteers at an animal sanctuary near Carlisle this Christmas. The people at Oak Tree Animal Charity, Wetheral, can’t take a day off when there are still dogs, cats, horses, goats and cattle to look after. However, despite many loyal local businesses and supporters continuing their donations to the good cause, the charity has seen a drop in income, because the coronavirus restrictions has meant it has had to cancel a lot of money-spinning events this year. Sarah Batty, fundraising and communications manager at the charity, said: “We all have to keep working over Christmas because the animals still need looking after.
