How Dane County doctors, community groups are working to improve vaccine access July 19, 2021 6:42 PM Christina Lorey Updated: MADISON, Wis.– Approximately two-thirds of white people in Dane County are fully vaccinated against COVID, while two-thirds of Black people are not. Doctors say they understand the hesitancy, much of it rooted in our country’s racist history, that’s causing many Black people not to want the vaccine. With the delta variant spreading, they’re sharing information about why this vaccine is different… and safe. Part of the problem is accessibility, according to doctors and local community groups. While many white people take for granted the ability to go and get a vaccine, many Black people may not have a doctor to go to, or easy Internet access to find one.

Newby II 18 May The School of Pharmacy, Fitchburg Family Pharmacy, and the Boys and Girls Club partner to increase COVID-19 vaccine access and address hesitancy among BIPOC communities By Katie Ginder-Vogel As pharmacists and healthcare providers rallied to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, the race to vaccinate the public opened a different battlefront addressing vaccine equity. Although people of color have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic in coronavirus cases, hospitalizations, and deaths, these communities of color have lower rates of vaccination. In Wisconsin, the COVID-19 vaccination rate for Black patients is about half the rate of white patients.

Boys & Girls Club of Dane County launching week-long COVID-19 vaccine awareness campaign next week May 7, 2021 9:46 AM Logan Rude MADISON, Wis. The Boys & Girls Club of Dane County is launching a week-long campaign to dispel misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines and raise awareness about their effectiveness. The week-long efforts start Monday, May 10 and will end Saturday, May 15 with a COVID-19 vaccination clinic hosted by the Boys & Girls Club. ““We will address the misinformation so that hesitant individuals have facts to fully inform their vaccination decision,” says Dr. Sarah Ghee, chief operating officer of BGCDC. “We all must take steps to increase our own awareness regarding the issue.”
