Emergency officials assess winter storm damage

Winter weather closes Sherman COVID testing site through Feb 15

Old man winter is taking a bite out of the local COVID-19 testing facility in Sherman.  The Grayson County Office of Emergency Management announced Friday that the county sponsored site would be closed through Monday. On Monday, the information said, a decision will be made about whether or not the site would open on Tuesday. Another round of inclement weather is forecast for the area for Wednesday.  When the weather isn t mucking things up, the free testing site (drive thru) continues to be available to anyone, with symptoms or not. Located in the rear parking lot of Midway Mall in Sherman, the site is available through a contract managed by the state of Texas.

State Is Years Behind In Reporting Medicaid Program Quality

Georgia, however, published its most recent quality plan in February 2016. It’s at least two years out of date. The guidelines aim to ensure members in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (known as PeachCare in Georgia) get quality health care and state taxpayers get a good return on their investment. “With the large state investment in Medicaid, the state should have the information it needs to hold the contracted organizations accountable and ensure they are best serving the needs of enrollees,” said Laura Harker, senior policy analyst at Georgia Budget and Policy Institute.

County changes COVID-19 test vendors, continues vaccinations

By Jerrie Whiteley Herald Democrat The county will be changing the provider for the free county sponsored COVID-19 tests that have been going on at Midway Mall in Sherman. The state s vendor contract with WellHealth, also known as GoGetTested, was not renewed and will end on Saturday.  The county was advised that the new vendor, DOCs, will set up similarly at the mall, GC Office of Emergency Management Director Sarah Somers said Tuesday. The start date will be Feb. 3 at 9 a.m. and then continue operations 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The bottom line, and I ll just say this, is we had some complaints, Grayson County Judge Bill Magers said during commissioner s court Tuesday about the change in testing providers. And, I wasn t happy with what they over promised and under delivered, and so after a number of times of trying to move forward with that, it didn t work out, so we re going to switch horses.
