Pennsylvania Ponders Package Fee to Pay for Roads, Bridges

What if the solution to Pennsylvania’s transportation funding quagmire was all the brown boxes and padded envelopes left at people’s front doors?
Officials tasked with finding new ways to pay for repairing the state’s roads and bridges are considering a delivery fee or tax for online purchases as one of the suggestions that would head to Gov. Tom Wolf.
Similar state proposals include New York City’s $3-per-box fee to fund the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and Colorado’s proposal of a 25-cent flat fee on online purchases delivered by vehicle.

3 dead as coroner called to haz-mat situation at South Bethlehem hotel, authorities say

Responding to a request to check on three people Wednesday morning in a Southside Bethlehem hotel, authorities found them dead, Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek said.
It was labeled a hazardous materials incident at the Comfort Suites at 120 W. Third St. Lysek said it was a haz-mat scene to determine if something hazardous played a role in the deaths.
The public was not in danger, nor were other guests at the hotel, he said.
Nearby rooms were evacuated, but the entire hotel was not cleared, police said. Asked if anyone reported feeling ill, police said they would not comment because it was an ongoing investigation.
