CENTERVILLE When Wendy Northcross arrived at the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce offices in April of 1997 to begin what had been promised as a one-year term as interim executive director, she found what she called “a very tired chamber.”
Northcross was fresh off a one-year stint setting up Coastal Community Capital, a community development lender, when the county asked her to take the helm of the chamber as it merged with the Barnstable County Economic Development Council.
“They said ‘Wendy, it’s just a year. Just keep the lights on,” said Northcross, 66, who announced her retirement Monday after 24 years as the chamber s CEO.

Cyr: We are ready

Sen. Julian Cyr (D-Truro) and members of the Cape Cod COVID-19 Task Force on Wednesday reassured 13,000 callers age 65 and up that we are ready to administer vaccines once equipped with proper supply.
Part info session and part pep talk, the state s legislative delegation, Cape Cod Healthcare and Barnstable County officials spent close to 90 minutes detailing plans for county drive-through vaccine clinics running at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis and the Barnstable County Fairgrounds in Falmouth.
State Sen. Julian Cyr, D-Truro, said hundreds of older Cape Codders do not have access to the internet or computer services that are currently required to book vaccination appointments on the state’s scheduling system.
But now Cape officials know how to contact many of them and offer assistance, Cyr said during a Cape Cod COVID-19 Response Task Force press teleconference Thursday morning.
The individuals came to light during a Wednesday night robocall briefing put on by the task force for Barnstable County residents ages 65 and older.
During the town hall-style phone briefing, 604 people on the line responded by dialing “1” when asked if they lacked internet or computer access at home, Cyr said.
