Putting a smile on traders’ faces is a piece of cake – or rather a homemade mince pie – for one caring team. While Covid put a stop to their annual coffee morning, Cockermouth Scouts didn’t let anything stop them brightening the town’s mood, and took to the town’s Main Street and beyond to deliver goodies to all. “The Scout Group Christmas coffee morning and deliveries has been running for over 20 years, and is part of the calendar of our town,” group Scout leader, Steve Dawson, said. “So we were determined to find a safe and appropriate way to complete our coffee and mince pies deliveries, and keep the tradition going.”

MORE than 20 groups in St Helens have received funding from Jack s sales of carrier bags this Christmas. Charities directly supporting the St Helens community have been invited to apply to the Jack’s Supports scheme to receive some well-deserved funding. Jack’s Supermarket, on Four Acre Lane, part of the Tesco family, launched its Jack’s Supports scheme to donate proceeds from the sale of carrier bags to local good causes. Normally, four local charities are shortlisted and receive a £250 donation. But after such a difficult year, Jack’s has decided that no charity will miss out and is offering even more support by donating £400 to every charity that applied. This includes 68 community groups local to its 12 stores, which is worth over £27,000 in donations!
Motorcycle Santa delivers holiday spirit (and candy canes)
Byram. Inspiration struck Dave Green while at work one day: in this rough year for local kids, they really needed to see Santa. He traveled about 125 miles around town, handed out more than 200 candy canes, and received such a joyous reception that he’s already planning next year’s ride. | 15 Dec 2020 | 03:49 Dave Green as Santa ready to deliver candy canes and holiday cheer around Byram (Photo provided by Dave Green) Dave Green as Santa on his travels around Byram (Photo provided by Dave Green)
Byram resident Dave Green recently gave the town a treat. Dressed as one of Santa’s helpers, he rode around town on his motorcycle giving out candy canes to children and bringing lots of joy and smiles to kids young and old. His ride symbolized happiness and hope during a year that has been filled with so much change due to Covid.
