Borrello, Goodell Say Workforce Development, Taxes Top Issues for Chautauqua County State leaders said workforce development and taxes are top issues for Chautauqua County. State Senator George Borrello and Assemblyman Chautauqua Chamber of Commerce‘s annual Legislative Breakfast, which was held virtually on Friday. When asked what the top three challenges facing Chautauqua County are, Senator Borrello said workforce needs to be our biggest focus, “I think the fact that we lack the people with the skills to fill the jobs that are here, for the manufacturers and the other companies that are here. Even companies like Athenex which is now ramping up. Having the people who are going to fill those 450 jobs is going to be a challenge.”

Andrew Cuomo were just a few of the topics discussed during the online Chautauqua Chamber of Commerce 2021 state legislative breakfast. On Friday, Todd Tranum, Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce president and CEO, was joined by John D’Agostino, The Post-Journal and OBSERVER editor and moderator, state Sen. George Borrello, R-Sunset Bay, and Andy Goodell, R-Jamestown, for the annual meeting to discuss state and local issues. Both Borrello and Goodell criticized the $212 billion state budget and its record-high spending plan. Borrello said there are many burdens being placed on small businesses in the state budget, which includes a significant increase in unemployment insurance.
