I have such fond memories of the London Olympics. The oddity of returning from holiday to find not the usual shifty-looking youths at my local railway station in South-East London, but helpful ‘games makers’ offering directions. Looking up from pushing my one-year-old on a swing in Greenwich Park to see a magnificent thoroughbred doing horse trials 200 metres away. The joyous atmosphere at the Olympic events we attended.
I do not just have happy memories, I have gratitude. At least twice a week I swim at an outdoor pool rescued from dereliction as an Olympic legacy project.
I feel desperately sorry for the Japanese, and especially the residents of Tokyo, that they will not get to experience their Olympics as spectators, or welcome tourists.

It was love at first visit. From the first moment I stepped into the brilliant bustle of Tokyo, Japan, I was captivated by its beautiful design aesthetic, so many charming people, delicious food everywhere, and a cultural dedication to excellence in every detail. My affection has grown deeper over time, especially as I’ve begun to sense the many complex and compelling stories about family, identity, social constructs, and history simmering beneath Tokyo’s streets and alleys.

I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Iain Reid
Ever felt that niggling feeling, that something is just not quite right? Iain Reid’s debut novel embodies that feeling – no wonder it’s an international bestseller, leading to Netflix original movie. With creepy farmhouses and a long night’s drive through a snowstorm, this intensely unnerving tale is the stuff of nightmares.
