Rockies 13, Cubs 6: Díaz and Hilliard go big in win

The Rockies offense finally showed up for Kyle Freeland.
Elias Díaz hit a grand slam and Sam Hilliard added a three-run homer and RBI double, C.J. Cron recorded three hits and three RBI, and Trevor Story hit two doubles, scored two runs, and drove in another as the Rockies bats were on fire in a 13-6 win over the Cubs on Tuesday night. Díaz scored three runs and came up just a triple shy of the cycle.
To put things in perspective, the Rockies had totaled four runs in Kyle Freeland’s last four starts combined. Thanks for Díaz’s first career grand slam, which also happens to be the seventh of the season for the Rockies, Freeland was pitching with a 4-1 lead after two innings. Another bright side of the plentiful offensive production was that Cubs fans were actually drowned out by Rockies fans at Coors Field.

With fans in Los Angeles expressing their venom, the Houston Astros were able to shut out the noise as well as the Dodgers in a 3-0 victory Tuesday behind the pitching of Lance McCullers Jr.
Yordan Alvarez hit a two-run home run and Michael Brantley had an RBI as the Astros improved to 2-1 against the Dodgers this season. McCullers (9-2) pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits with three walks and nine strikeouts.
Dodgers starter Walker Buehler (11-2) lacked efficiency but gave up just one run on five hits over six innings, with three walks and five strikeouts.
DENVER (AP) Elías Díaz hit a grand slam, Kyle Freeland got his first win in more than a month and the Colorado Rockies beat the Chicago Cubs 13-6. Freeland pitched five innings and earned his first win since June 28 before being removed after the fifth inning with a left foot contusion. He was hit by a line drive with one out in the fifth, finished the inning and was replaced after throwing warmup pitches in the sixth. He allowed two runs on four hits and struck out five. Sam Hilliard also homered and C.J. Cron had three hits and three RBIs for the Rockies. Ian Happ homered for the Cubs, who played most of the game without manager David Ross. Ross was ejected in the second inning.
