Hop on over to Dickâs Fresh Market in River Falls on Saturdayâs from 8:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Tuesday evenings from 3 to 6 p.m. Check out the locally grown produce including flowers, fresh vegetables, fruits, honey, meat, cheese and more from within a 35 mile radius of River Falls. April 7, 2021, marked 20 years since white Officer Steven Roach shot and killed Black 19-year-old Timothy Thomas in Over-the-Rhine. The shooting, along with 14 other killings of Black males at the hands of police from 1995 to 2001, led to nearly a week of unrest in Cincinnati. The protests, lootings and chaos garnered national media attention.
Reporting for WCPO, Jenell Walton interviewed NAACP President Kweisi Mfume as he toured the damaged area of Over-the-Rhine s Vine Street business district during the unrest. Her coverage earned her an Emmy nomination.
WDBZ the Buzz had only been on the air for about a year when the protests broke out. Host Lincoln Ware described events live from the scene, calling into the radio station as he watched people break out windows at Deveroes.
YOUNGSTOWN Joseph Jacob Bishop, 67, passed away Monday, March 1, 2021, peacefully at his home.
Joseph Jacob Bishop, affectionately known as “Joe,” was born on July 25, 1953, to Betty Ruth Bishop Harkins and Jacob Bishop in Youngstown.
Joe was a lifelong resident of Youngstown. He was a graduate of The Rayen High School, class of 1973. Joe worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube, LB Foster Steel, Marquette Food Service, YSU, and finally, Stambaugh Auditorium before retiring.
Joe enjoyed fishing, reading the newspaper, and playing the daily lotto and was a sports enthusiast. Joe played in many softball and hardball leagues around the Valley. He could play all nine positions on the baseball diamond, but dominated at short stop and second base, where he was all-county. He played for many teams such as Blake’s Bar, Clyde Street Cafe, and Fabulous Goldstein’s Furniture. Joe was a die-hard New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Steelers fan, hardly missing any of their games. Joe was ver
