Mike Bhana A chilly bin full of pink maomao was captured in a video in Tairua recently, shot by documentary filmmaker Mike Bhana. “There’s probably been a lot of pressure on that fishery for the last 10 years, but it wasn’t brought to our attention until now,” Ngāti Hei kaumatua Joe Davis told Stuff. Davis, who last year organised and led a rāhui on scallops in Opito Bay, has since actioned a voluntary rāhui on pink maomao after concerns for its unprotected population. The rāhui, which was put in place over the weekend, will apply to the waters of Ngāti Hei rohe along eastern Coromandel between Whangapoua and Whangamatā.
