What s in a (team) name?, Part 5 ( Killers ?)

What s in a (team) name?, Part 5 ( Killers ?) By JohnW53 on Jan 7, 2021, 3:03am CST + .... Many baseball books and websites show that the Cubs played under 4 names. Baseball-reference.com, for example, lists: 1876-1889: White Stockings 1903-2020: Cubs But as shown in previous posts in this series, newspapers referred to the team by multiple other names. Nor was there an immediate shift from one name to another. In 1902, as described yesterday, the Chicago Tribune printed the last name of the team s new manager, Selee, and Orphans on the same page just 3 times. Selee and Remnants, a name that first had appeared in 1901, were printed together 33 times.
