The circus will ‘Prevail’
The show goes on for the Circus Arts Conservatory, which has put together a new circus production that will be presented in front of live audiences and be available for home streaming. “Prevail” features a number of veterans of Cirque du Soleil shows who have been unable to perform for the last year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Some have been working as coaches with the Sarasota Sailor Circus. “Prevail” will be presented Friday through Sunday and March 12-14 in the Sailor Circus Arena, 2075 Bahia Vista St., Sarasota. When Telltale Games crashed and burned several years ago under the misfortune of bankruptcy, several games were lost or de-listed altogether in the fallout. Some, like Wolf Among Us 2 and Sam & Max, have managed to stay in development due to popularity. Tales from the Borderlands wasn’t so fortunate, and for the longest time, this quirky take on the Vault Hunting corporate sci-fi universe was unavailable to those looking to take its wild ride. The Walking Dead by Telltale Games is widely regarded as the title which revived point-and-click games, morphing it into something better described as a graphic adventure in the process, but before they were making masterpieces like The Walking Dead, this little studio was cutting its teeth on more traditional examples of the genre like Sam & Max Save the World.
I love point-and-click adventures. There’s something charming about the way games play out, requiring ingenuity and outside-the-box thinking from the best of gamers (and a handy walkthrough for the rest of us). Sam and Max of the Sam & Max franchise take this idea of being charming and throw it out the window like last week’s leftovers, replacing it with a joyous mix of anarchy and puerile humour.
