Eight bodies have been recovered and 384 people were rescued by the Army today while 38 persons are still missing after the glacier burst incident took place in Sumna, Neeti Valley near the India-China border in Chamoli district on Friday.

Teams sent to confirm incident amid heavy snowfall. Amid reports of a glacier breaking off in the Sumna area, located close to the Indo-China border in Uttarakhand, the Chamoli Police on Friday night said there was no official confirmation of the incident. Efforts were underway to determine the location of the possible event.
Through a tweet, the Chamoli Police urged social media users to refrain from spreading rumours. The police, however, said the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Commander concerned had informed them that reports of such an incident had been received and teams were being sent to the area.

Chamoli (Uttarakhand) [India], March 1 (ANI): Many police personnel sustained injuries near Gairsain here when protestors demanding the widening of the 19-km road from Ghat to Nandprayag pelted stones at the jawans. Police lathi-charged and used water cannons to disperse the crowd.
Speaking to ANI, Chamoli SP Yashwant Singh said, With their demand of the widening of the road, they called for a march to the Assembly. Attempts were made to stop the protesters at Jangalchatti barrier but they moved further after a scuffle.
